How and where citrine is formed
Citrine is thought to take its name from the Latin 'citrus' and the French 'citron' meaning lemon, in reference to its yellow hues which range from light lemon to darker, golden orange and brown. A type of quartz formed in igneous rocks as magma cools, its colour is determined by the concentration of iron present as the crystal forms. Sources of citrine include Brazil, Russia, France, Madagascar, Britain and the United States.
