Handmade Garnet Jewellery
How and where garnet is formed
Found all over the world in sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous rocks, most garnets are formed when a sedimentary rock with a high aluminium content is subjected to intense heat and pressure. Named after the latin word for "seed" because of its similarity to a pomegranate seed, garnet is most commonly known in its deep red form, however the presence of certain inclusions during formation can result in a variety of other colours including pink, green, orange, yellow, brown and black.
